## Frequently asked questions

### What is TraderCongress?

TraderCongress is a political trading intelligence platform that puts the public record from eight sources into one dashboard: congressional STOCK Act disclosures, the President's financial disclosures, SEC Form 4 insider filings, federal government contracts, corporate lobbying reports, dark pool and off-exchange activity, USASpending.gov awards, and AI Signals, a daily activity rating for every company Congress has traded in the last 90 days. With 94,000+ congressional trades, 6,900+ presidential trades, 114,000+ SEC insider filings, 21,000+ federal contract records and 27,000+ lobbying reports indexed, we help retail investors, financial advisors and policy researchers see where politics and markets meet.

### Where does the data come from?

All data comes from official public records. Congressional trades come from STOCK Act disclosures filed by all 535 House and Senate members. The President's trades come from the periodic transaction reports in the presidential financial disclosures. Insider filings come from SEC EDGAR Form 4 submissions. Government contracts and lobbying records come from federal databases, and spending data comes directly from USASpending.gov. We bring these sources together so you don't have to watch seven government websites.

### How often is the data updated?

TraderCongress checks for new congressional trades and insider filings every hour, and updates presidential disclosures, government contracts, lobbying records, off-exchange data and federal spending once a day, every morning US Eastern time, all from official sources. AI Signals ratings are recomputed every morning after that update, and companies with new filings are re-rated every hour. Your dashboard shows when each dataset was last updated. Paid plans see the newest data with no delay; the free tier sees data with a 60-day delay.

### Is this financial advice?

No. TraderCongress is strictly for informational and educational purposes. We are not a registered investment advisor, broker-dealer, or financial planner. The fact that a member of Congress traded a stock does not constitute a buy or sell recommendation. Congressional disclosures are often filed weeks after the actual transaction. Always do your own research and consult a qualified financial advisor before making investment decisions.

### What's the difference between the plans?

We offer two plans. Free gives you congressional trades, government contracts and federal spending on a 60-day delay, plus a watchlist of up to 3 tickers. Pro removes the delay — congressional trades and SEC insider filings are checked every hour, and contracts, lobbying, dark pool and federal spending data update daily — and adds AI Signals with rating alerts, the Trump Trades tracker, Insider Trading, Lobbying, Off-Exchange, Trends, unlimited watchlists, unlimited email and in-app alerts, and the weekly email digest. You keep the rate you signed up at for as long as your subscription stays active. Check the pricing section above for a full comparison.

### Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes, you can cancel anytime from the Billing page in your dashboard. Your subscription stays active until the end of the current billing period. No partial-month refunds are issued, but you won't be charged again after cancellation. You can also manage your subscription through the Stripe customer portal.

### How do I delete my account?

You can delete your account from the Settings page. This permanently removes all your data including watchlists, alerts, notification history, and preferences. This action cannot be undone.

### Is the data accurate?

We strive for high accuracy but depend on third-party data sources and official government filings. Congressional disclosures may be amended after filing, and there can be a lag of up to 45 days between when a trade occurs and when it's publicly disclosed under the STOCK Act. We deduplicate records using SHA-256 hashing and sync continuously to minimize gaps. We recommend verifying critical data points against official sources before making investment decisions.

### What can I see on the dashboard?

Your dashboard opens on a live overview: congressional trades tracked (currently 94,000+), presidential trades in the last 90 days, active government contracts, lobbying reports this quarter, your active alerts, the newest congressional transactions with member names and parties, and the most-traded tickers in Congress (currently MSFT, AAPL, AMZN, NVDA and GOOGL). From there: AI Signals, where every company Congress traded in the last 90 days is rated High, Moderate, Low or Quiet each morning with what changed today; the Trump Trades tracker; Insider Trading; a Weekly Digest; and a profile for any member of Congress.

### Is congressional stock trading legal?

Yes, congressional stock trading is legal. The STOCK Act of 2012 did not ban members of Congress from trading stocks — it established disclosure requirements and affirmed that existing insider trading laws apply to legislators. Members must report trades over $1,000 within 45 days. However, using non-public information gained through official duties for personal financial gain is illegal. The challenge is enforcement: the $200 late-filing penalty is trivial and routinely waived, and no member has been criminally prosecuted solely under the STOCK Act.

### How do I track what stocks Congress is buying?

You can track congressional stock trades through official STOCK Act disclosures (filed with the Clerk of the House and Secretary of the Senate) or use a platform like TraderCongress. TraderCongress combines eight views in one dashboard — congressional trades, presidential trades, SEC insider filings, government contracts, lobbying activity, dark pool data, federal spending and AI Signals — so you can check a political trading signal against the other records instead of visiting seven government websites. Set up a watchlist and alerts to hear within the hour when a member of Congress trades a stock you own.

### What is the STOCK Act and why does it matter for investors?

The Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK Act), signed into law in 2012, requires all 535 members of the United States Congress — both the House of Representatives and the Senate — to publicly disclose securities transactions within 45 days. This law was enacted to prevent insider trading by legislators who have access to non-public information through committee hearings, classified briefings, and legislative negotiations. TraderCongress monitors these disclosures so retail investors can see what Congress is buying and selling — the same transparency that institutional traders have been leveraging for years.

### Does Congress beat the stock market?

Multiple academic studies have found that congressional stock portfolios consistently outperform the S&P 500. A widely cited study showed senators' stock picks outperformed the market by roughly 12% annually — a phenomenon known as the 'Pelosi Effect.' This outperformance is attributed to the information advantage legislators have through committee hearings, classified briefings, and advance knowledge of legislation. TraderCongress tracks over 94,000+ congressional trades so you can see these patterns for yourself.

### Can I copy Congress stock trades to make money?

Some investors report positive returns from mirroring congressional trades, but there are important caveats. STOCK Act disclosures can be delayed up to 45 days, so the information advantage may already be partially priced in. The most useful approach is to focus on high-conviction signals: large purchases ($50K+), bipartisan clustering (multiple members buying the same stock), committee-relevant trades, and cross-checking with insider buying, presidential disclosures and government contracts. AI Signals puts those cross-checks on one board every morning. Congressional trading ETFs like NANC and KRUZ also offer passive exposure to this strategy. None of this is investment advice.

### What are the most traded stocks by Congress members?

Based on our live STOCK Act disclosure data, the most actively traded stocks by Congress members are currently Microsoft (MSFT) with 1,000+ trades, Apple (AAPL) with 930+ trades, Amazon (AMZN) with 640+ trades, NVIDIA (NVDA) with 530+ trades, and Alphabet/Google (GOOGL) with 440+ trades. These numbers update every day as new disclosures come in. Technology stocks dominate congressional portfolios, followed by healthcare and defense sectors.

### What is the best congressional stock trading tracker?

TraderCongress is the most complete congressional stock trading tracker available. Most tools show congressional trades from a single source. TraderCongress puts eight views in one dashboard: STOCK Act disclosures, the President's trade disclosures, SEC Form 4 insider filings, federal government contracts, corporate lobbying activity, dark pool and off-exchange data, USASpending.gov awards, and AI Signals, which rates every company Congress has traded each morning and shows where the other records point. A company winning government contracts, being lobbied for and being bought by several members of Congress is a far more complete picture than trade data alone.

### Do I need trading experience to use this politician stock tracker?

Not at all. TraderCongress is a politician stock tracker designed for investors of all experience levels. The dashboard presents data in clear, filterable tables with representative names, party affiliations, transaction types, and ticker symbols — no technical analysis knowledge required. Set up a watchlist for stocks you already own, and we'll notify you when a Congress member trades them. Many of our users are long-term investors who simply want to stay informed about political activity that could affect their portfolio.

### Which stocks does Congress trade the most?

Based on our live data, the most actively traded stocks by Congress members are currently Microsoft (MSFT) with 1,000+ trades, Apple (AAPL) with 930+ trades, Amazon (AMZN) with 640+ trades, NVIDIA (NVDA) with 530+ trades, and Alphabet (GOOGL) with 440+ trades. These numbers update every day as new STOCK Act disclosures come in. You can view the full ranking on your dashboard under 'Top Congress Activity.'

### What are AI Signals?

AI Signals rates every company Congress has traded in the last 90 days, every morning, from High to Quiet activity, with the direction (mostly buying, mostly selling or mixed) and the reasons in plain words: how one-sided and how large the trading is, how many members are on the same side, how unusual the last 30 days are against the company's own norm, and whether federal contract totals and lobbying spend are rising. Company insiders, presidential disclosures and dark pool volume are shown alongside. The board shows what changed today and what was filed in the last 24 hours, and every row opens an Ask window that answers who traded, why the company is rated as it is, and what else is happening around it. The rating is the same for every subscriber and is not a buy or sell recommendation.

### What are Trump Trades?

The Trump Trades tab tracks the stock transactions reported in the President's financial disclosures: 6,900+ transactions since January 2026, each with ticker, buy or sell, the disclosed dollar range and the dates traded and filed. These disclosures arrive in monthly batches about two months after the trades, so the tab shows what was disclosed in the last 90 days as well as the full record. In AI Signals, the presidential record appears next to the congressional one for the same company.

### Does AI Signals tell me what to buy?

No. A rating describes how much government-linked activity has gathered around a company and in which direction members of Congress have been trading it. It is not a forecast and not a recommendation: the same rating is shown to everyone, the method is published, and the calibration behind it is reported honestly. Use it to decide what to look at first, then do your own research or talk to a qualified advisor.

### What is the Weekly Digest?

Every Sunday the Weekly Digest emails the week's notable congressional trades, contract awards and lobbying filings and, for Pro subscribers, which AI Signals ratings moved during the week. It reads in under two minutes.

### Can I use TraderCongress from Canada?

Yes. TraderCongress is a web app available anywhere and is built for investors in the United States and Canada. Prices are in U.S. dollars and Stripe accepts Canadian cards. The data covers the U.S. Congress, SEC insider filings and U.S. federal contracts and lobbying — exactly what matters if you hold U.S.-listed stocks through a Canadian brokerage, TFSA or RRSP. Canada has no STOCK Act equivalent, so Canadian MPs' trades are not tracked.

### Is there a free trial?

There is a free plan instead of a trial: no credit card, no time limit, with congressional trades, government contracts and federal spending on a 60-day delay and a watchlist of up to three tickers. Pro is billed monthly or annually, can be cancelled anytime from the Billing page, and you keep the rate you signed up at for as long as your subscription stays active. Current prices are on the pricing page.
